Advanced Musical Theater
Section I (Gr. 9-12)

Instructor: Warren Friedman

Ages: Grades 9 -12; Sat. 12-2

This class is designed for students who are looking for a challenging course in all aspects of musical theater - singing, dancing and acting.

Students will learn songs, dances, musical numbers, and some monologues from some of Broadway's biggest Tony Award-winning hits. Students will have input into which songs and scenes they wish to work on. The class will stress proper performance and acting techniques, using several formats: solos, duets, trios, small and large ensembles.

Material from some of the following musicals may be used: West Side Story, Chicago, Spring Awakening, Avenue Q, Next to Normal, Hair, Mamma Mia, Rent, Beauty & the Beast, Wicked, 13, Legally Blonde, Mary Poppins, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Hair, The Little Mermaid, Little Women, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Cats. More shows may be added to the list from which to choose.

Musical tracks from the shows will be used to teach the class that will culminate in a Performance Showcase for parents and friends.
