A native of Somerset Kentucky, Dr. Charles Morris began playing trombone at the age of nine. He completed his Bachelor of Music in Music Education at the University of Kentucky and a Master of Music in Trombone Performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of music where he minored in Jazz Studies. Chuck recently received a Doctorate of Musical Arts at Michigan State University.
Chuck’s experience in education began as a private lesson instructor and beginning band teacher in Lexington, Kentucky. More recently, at Alma College he served as the Adjunct Professor of Trombone and taught all brass instruments in the Bass Pedagogy Class.
As a soloist, Chuck’s highlights include a solo performance at Carnegie Hall as well as a performance with the premier Indiana University Orchestra as the concerto competition winner. Chuck works as a freelance musician, having performed with the Detroit Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, Indianapolis Symphony, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, as well as with many regional jazz bands, orchestras, pit bands, and his professional brass quintet, Paradigm Brass.
